Budget/target/comment

The government's overall programme for delivering sustainable communities in England.  It aims to tackle housing supply issues in the South East, low demand in other parts of the country, and the quality of public spaces.  Within this, major elements relate to addressing housing shortages including affordable housing, bringing all social housing  up to decent standards by 2010, and improving liveability.

The total budget for housing and communities between 2002/03 and 2005/06 is £22 billion of which, £5 billion is to regenerate deprived areas, £2.8 billion is to bring council homes up to a decent standard and £200 million is to improve parks and open spaces.
