Definitions and data sources

The graph shows the proportion of homes deemed to be 'very energy inefficient' by local authority.

The energy efficiency of a home is measured using some thing called the 'Standard Assessment Procedure' (SAP) rating.  SAP ratings range from 0 to 100, with the higher the rating the more energy efficient the home.  Because of the way that the data is broken down, the threshold used to define 'very energy inefficient' homes is those which have a SAP rating of less than 20.

The data source is the 2001 House Condition Survey, with the data obtained via the Northern Ireland Neighbourhood Information Service.
